After a short night of sleep, I picked up Maarten Jan en Suzanne at the train station. We drove for half an hour and arrived at a dark parking place in the forest. I was relieved that I could also find my way through the forest in the dark, and we arrived at the heather field before sunrise. In the first light of the day, we could see that the heather was covered with a thin layer of ice (no wonder with those temperatures below zero). I just love the smell of frozen landscapes before sunrise and thought ‘I am so lucky to work in these places’!
The sky colored neon pink and orange, just before sunrise, and there was some fog above the heather. Add to that a couple deeply in love and I am so happy.
Even before 9 AM we were drinking hot chocolate and eating ‘stroopwafels’ (these delicious Dutch cookies). They were hugging to get and keep warm and they are sooo cute together.
Later, we met a couple telling each other ‘look, these people are on their way to do a photo session’. Nope, we were on our way to the car. We’ve had the whole heather area for ourselves, which is one of the reasons I love waking up and working early in the day.
