All around me I hear from photographers that they get so little inquiries for photo sessions in winter. This surprises me, every year again. Because I happen to be a BIG fan of winter photo sessions. Does ‘winter photo session’ sound to you like voluntarily dying of cold and having that captured? You should definitely read the six reasons why I think you should book your winter photo session.
Reason 1: no need to wake up in the middle of the night for the sunrise
If you want a photo session at sunrise in the summer season, you have to wake up in the middle of the night to get ready and get to the location. In winter, however, you can stay in your comfy bed for hours longer and still have your magical sunrise pictures!
Reason 2: the light in winter is like a natural filter for your skin
Sometimes clients tell me: “it’s a perfect day for the photo session, bright blue sky and so sunny!”. And then I tell them that the light at midday in summer doesn’t do much good for your skin in the pictures. Harsh shadows and bright white skin, nope. So, on summer days like that, I’d take you to a place with a lot of shade. In winter, the sun doesn’t rise that high in the sky, and often it doesn’t show at all. That way, we always have this flattering filter for your skin, no matter what location or what time of the day.
Reason 3: perfect mood
Hat on your head, scarf around your neck and gloves on your hands. Does it get cozier than that? Add hot chocolate and many hugs with your lover and I think we created the perfect romantic mood.
Reason 4: private photo location!
The most beautiful places are often also places that will be visited by many other people. Now, many people prefer to go outdoors only in summer, and not on a cold winter’s day. This means that you can have the most beautiful spots all for yourself! Nobody watching you while I take pictures of you and no people spoiling the landscape.
Reason 5: hugging is so much nicer in winter
Hugging in your summer dress while it’s 30 degrees Celsius? Nope, not for me. Sticky and sweaty, yuks! No, I think hugging in winter is the best. And it has a double function, because not only is hugging very nice, it’s also very useful to keep each other warm 🙂
Reason 6: snow!
If you’re lucky, and this chance is so much bigger in winter than in summer, you might have a fairytale snow landscape during your photo session. Frost, snow and/or ice: this absolutely adds some magic to the landscape! Also: who doesn’t love a good snowball fight?
But… I don’t look good in my big coat
Then don’t wear it! If you add several layers of clothes on top of each other, you won’t need a coat. Your thermo underwear is your new best friend. Besides, even if you get a bit cold, you have your lover and hot chocolate to warm up again 🙂
